Gisèle Halimi Death | Passed Away | Obituary
Gisèle Halimi Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Gisèle Halimi.
The famous lawyer, who had fought for the right to abortion and criminalization of rape, died on July 28, in Paris, at the age of 93
Lawyer Gisèle Halimi died at age 93 At the dawn of the 60 s, she advocated for the independence of her country, Tunisia, but also Algeria. She stands for members of the Algerian National Movement.
A committed feminist, she plays a crucial role in two historical trials. In 1972, she gets the relaxation of Marie-Claire, a teenager who had aborted after rape. A few years later, the Veil law is enacted.
In 1978, she defended two women victims of collective rape at the Assises of Aix-en-Provence. This is the first time a rape has been tried in this case. Until then recognized as a crime, it will be considered a crime in a law of 1980.
Gisèle Halimi’s death reminds us that a handful of women have been the emblematic activists of the female cause. It is important that we pay tribute to these fighters by reminding us of the great fragility of the achievements in this field.
There is no civilization accomplished without full recognition of women’s freedom.
Gisèle Halimi, lawyer and figure of feminism, has just died at the age of 93. A signatory of the 343 manifesto, she vigorously defended the right to abortion, as evidenced by this exchange with an opponent of the future Veil law, in January 1974.
