George Bizos fled Greece as a child during WWII to later become a successful lawyer, an anti-apartheid activist in SA and a close friend of Nelson Mandela’s.
He ‘ll be rememembered as one of those Greeks who really make you “proud to be Greek”.

George Bizos, who arrived in South Africa as a 13-year-old war refugee from Greece and became Nelson Mandela’s lawyer and anti-apartheid icon, died at 92

Saddened to hear of the passing of human rights lawyer George Bizos at the age of 92. George was one of the legal team defending Mandela, Mbeki and Sisulu at the Rivonia trial in 1963/64. Here I am with Mlangeni, Bizos and Kathrada. My condolences to George’s family and friends.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.
