Garrick Bloom Death – Man Found Dead In Cell

A shippenville man serving a prison sentence at the state prison in Houtzdale on sexual assault was discovered dead in his cell.

According to Houtzdale Superintendent Barry Smith, at approximately 11 p.m, 48 year old Garrick Bloom died August 29 2020. He was discovered unconscious in his cell.

According to press release, Officers and medical examiners quickly responded to the scene and performed CPR but all effort was unsuccessful, and when EMS personnel arrived to the scene they pronounced Bloom dead.

Investigation will be conducted by the Pennsylvania state police, and the circumstances surrounding his death will be confirmed by the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office.

He was sentenced to prison in September 2019 to serve 40 to 80 years in state prison, and he had been at Houtzdale since December 5, 2019.

Clarion County Children and Youth Services had reported to Clarion state police in October 2018 that a juvenile boy was being sexually assaulted by Bloom.
The boy reported the assault to police, he said it began when he was five years old and went on for several years.

At first Bloom denied the allegations but eventually admitted to sexually assaulting the boy.

A warrant was issued for Bloom’s arrest on January 16, 2019, but he ran off. He was later found in a homeless shelter in Tallahassee, Florida, and was arrested February 7, 2019.
