Debbie Mangual-Condi mourned the “sudden death” of Battalion Chief John Ruddy of Jersey City Fire Department on her Facebook page.

“I’ll share something I never had the chance to share with you. You attended one of my art openings many years ago and told me “you paint with acrylics the way an oil painter does, I can see with your brushstrokes you need to be painting in oils, have you considered oils?” I had not up until that day. I then committed to learning oils and with one question you helped change and level up my art game…you unbeknownst pushed John Ruddy Jersey Cityme to be a better artist. You inject hope in others because you care and John I wish I had told you that. You inspired me and so many others in our community. We always had many deep conversations about art, spirituality, travels….nothing about you was ever shallow. My heart breaks for those two powerful women, your wife Geeta and your daughter Asha. The moment you meet them you know the power I’m talking about. You are both in my prayers. John Ruddy was an incredible artist, father, leader, husband, Battalion Chief. May you delight in learning the secret’s of the universe my friend. Rest in Eternal Peace.”

The Jersey City Fire Department is the largest fire department in the state of New Jersey and provides fire protection to the city of Jersey City. It was founded on September 21, 1829.
