Fred Taylor was born in Michigan. Fred completed his high school education at Ellsworth High School. After high school, he attended Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. Fred returned to his hometown and married Mary VanderArk.
He relocated his family to Rome, Georgia, in 1982 to start his own business. Fred was a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, Georgia. He also serves on the boards of King University in Bristol, Tennessee, Haggai Institute in Norcross, Georgia, and Christ Tabernacle Church in Queens, New York.
He founded several companies, including OTR Wheel Engineering, Blackstone OTR, and Green Carbon, as well as Silverstone Inc. in Omaha, Nebraska, OTR Europe, OTR Thailand, Northshore Wheel in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, Canada, and TRW, Forged Wheels.
Taylor received the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award in 2016. Mr and Mrs Taylor have five children: Chadwick Taylor, Eric Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Kelly Taylor, and Elisabeth Taylor. They have six grandchildren, Madelyn, Grayson, Cooper, Blake, Ethan, and Reef, all of whom live in Rome, Georgia.
