Fresno City College mourns the death Dean Monica Cuevas

Monica Cuevas Cause of Death – Passed Away: Monica Cuevas, prominent dean of Guidance and Counseling at Fresno City College has passed away. Monica Cuevas died on Monday night after suffering a heart attack. She was 54 years old at the time. Cuevas graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1985.

According to reports, Cuevas had recently returned to Mexican folkloric dancing and had just finished a dance number in tribute to the México City and Los Angeles Pachuca eras of the 1940s and 1950s when she collapsed.

Cuevas spent 23 years at Fresno City College, where she was appointed as the dean in October 2017. She volunteered at the Fresno Latino Rotary’s annual Christmas toy giveaway at Chukchansi Park on Saturday.

Fresno City College will not be the same without our dear friend Monica. We lost a cheerleader of student success for our students of colour. We miss her greatly already. We appreciate all you paying her respects.

Cuevas was a regular at FCC sporting events, including the state volleyball championships, which the Rams women won on December 3. She danced with the Roosevelt High folkloric dancers for four years and was a member of the school’s colour guard.
