Frédéric Devreese Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Frédéric Devreese.
Together with composer Frédéric Devreese I was in Amsterdam for three days for the film music he wrote for my first long film PAULINE & PAULETTE. It was a memorable time and I was honored that this man compnered music for my movie… RIP maëstro Devreese!
From 1981 to 1991 Frédéric Devreese was director of our academy. The auditorium in campus Overijse was even named after him. Today this gifted composer and conductor had to say goodbye. Frédéric Devreese turned 91 Rest in peace, maestro. #ripdevreese
Today unfortunately we have to say goodbye to Frédéric Devreese. He died from the consequences of cancer at the age of 91 Devreese is known as composer of an extensive, versatile and authentic oeuvre and conductor. Frederic Devreese one of Belgian’s greatest composers has passed away at 91. He has been a source of inspiration for many generations of musicians. His generosity, his wisdom, his friendship and his love for music were boundless.
His music will live on in our hearts. Yesterday, today and forever. Love, respect and friendship.
We are saddened today to hear the news of the passing of Frédéric Devreese, the father of Belgian film music.
Devreese’s remarkable film works include his various collaborations with director André Delvaux, and many other films such as ‘Du bout des lèvres’ by Jean-Marie Degesves, ‘Les Noces Barbares’ and ‘Il Maestro’ by Marion Hänsel, ‘Het Sacrament’ by Hugo Claus, ‘ Pauline and Paulette’ by Lieven Debrauwer.
Besides his works on film music, the Belgian musician dedicated his exceptional professional career to orchestral, chamber, piano, and violin works, including a symphony, two operas, and a ballet suite, which have been performed all over the world.
We celebrated his life and work last year during the World Soundtrack Awards, where he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award; and today, we keep celebrating him with immense respect and admiration.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Frédéric Devreese, the father of Belgian film music, at the age of 91.
#Devreese will not only be remembered for being the inspiration to an entire generation of composers, but also for his great interest in young musicians, whom he sought to stimulate and promote through several initiatives.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Your music will forever remain in our hearts.
