Fred Wenz a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies passed away at the age of 79. Fred was an avid baseball player. Mr Wenz was a relief pitcher and he acquired the nickname “Fireball” because he threw over 100 mph. Before the 1959 Season Wenz was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent. In June, 1961 Wenz was sent from the San Francisco Giants to the Boston Red Sox in an unknown transaction. On November 25, 1969 Wenz was purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies from the Boston Red Sox. Wenz pitched for the Red Sox in 1968 and 1969. He played for the Phillies in 1970.
