Just heard of the passing of Fred Kniffen. What a tremendous man, and what a tennis legacy he left us. I loved his interest in my boys’ tennis careers and we took advantage of hitting with him on his court more than a time or two. Forever grateful. May he rest in peace.

The HSU Tennis team expresses condolences to the Kniffen family. Fred Kniffen was a 1990 inductee to the HSU Athletics Hall Of Fame. He was a personal friend of Coach Williford who attended his Big Country Tennis Camp when he was in ninth grade in 1984. You will be missed Coach!

My cousin, Fred Kniffen, passed this morning. He was the patriarch of the Kniffen coaching dynasty. Not only was he my cousin, but also my mentor. Not just a good player, teacher, and coach. He was a good husband, father, brother, relative, and overall outstanding person. He left quite a legacy on the Texas Tennis scene. He will be sorely missed. Rick Perry, if your lovely wife, Holly, doesn’t know already, you need to let her know. I’m sure she feels a great sense of loss. May the God of all consolation bless us all with comfort for the loss.

Please keep the Kniffen family in your prayers today. Fred Kniffen has gone to be with his wife Carolyn in heaven. He was the oldest of the Kniffen brothers and most of you knew him from our tennis camps. He was truly a great man and will be missed by all.

Coach Fred Kniffen was a legend in tennis and had huge impact in both West and East Texas. Laying the ground work and growing our game. He is a great friend and mentor to me in my time at UT Tyler. He was always supportive and encouraging to me and someone I loved having around the program. He will be greatly missed. It was not easy to follow a legend but it was certainly a great honor! RIP Coach!

Lost a good friend and a decent human being this morning. My coach and mentor Fred Kniffen, was also one of the persons who helped me come to US forty years ago, passed away of age related unwell. But he gave it a good fight. Rest in peace Coach Kniffen.
