Section 9 mourns passing of great ambassador in Roscoe athletic director and coach Fred Ahart. Ahart, an institution at Sullivan County school since 1969 who coached more than 1,000 basketball games, was always about athletes & making sure every one of them was recognized.

Saddened to hear of the passing of long time Roscoe High School athletic director & COACH Fred Ahart. Fred is certainly a legend in New York interscholastic athletics & will be greatly missed. Keeping his family & the
community in my thoughts & prayers.

I was very saddened tonight to hear about the passing of Fred Ahart . . . or as I knew him, simply Coach. I, and so many others who grew up in a small, upstate NY town called Roscoe, were so fortunate to have experienced playing for such an incredible man. His ability to consistently post winning records, year after year over five decades of coaching, and against teams from schools twice our size, speaks to his technical coaching talent for sure. But the winning records have never been my first thought when I think back to my time on the football field, and on the basketball court with Coach. Instead I think about the important life lessons ever-present in his practices, in his pre and post-game talks, and about how he modelled and insisted on good sportsmanship, always. These are the lessons that I, and I’m sure many others who played for Coach, pass along to our children, and to the kids we coach. I hope Coach knew how far his lessons reached, and just how many people he really impacted. May you rest in peace Coach. My sincere condolences to Becky, and to the rest of the Ahart family.

Was so great to see my friend and mentor Coach Fred Ahart. Coaching as given me so many blessing none more important than friendship. So grateful to Fred and Becky for giving me a start in my coaching. Great evening made better by sharing it with great friends

Hearts are breaking all across our school community tonight over the loss of an amazing man. Coach Ahart dedicated more than 50 years of his life to RCS, the Roscoe community and 1000s of student athletes all across NYS. Fred’s kind heart and the absolute love for what he did and for the people in his life, will forever live on in our memories. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the members of the Ahart family and to all of Coach’s extended Blue Devil family.
