It has taken me some time to really swallow the passing of my dear friend, Frank Mamola.
I’ve known Frank for almost 10years. I know we will all miss him, and I’ve spent the day really thinking about how we’re going to remember him now that he’s gone from this physical realm. He was someone who was a happy-go-lucky, bright light to a lot of people, including me.
I learned a lot from Frank. He always had an opinion, 1 way or another, and always was willing to listen to mine. We usually disagreed, but that did not have any hinderance on our friendship. He loved the Disco Biscuits and ONLY liked Bobby “cowboy songs”.
His passion for his friends and his family were infectious.
Whenever I went to his place in Elmwood Park, I was welcomed with the BEST coffee on the planet (rocket fuel cold espresso) and salty meat and cheese (my fave). For the past few years, he was a staple at every single one of my family’s Jewish Holidays. He truly believed he was a member of my family and I think I may have taken that for granted.
What a lesson.
I don’t mean to write a long thing here on social media, but it seems to be the best way I can let it out. Frank was a good man. Let this be a reminder of this gift we are each given every single day. Every breathe we take is a gift.
If any of my friends, family and community members are in need of somebody to talk to, I am happy to meditate with you listen and grieve in a safe, sober and respectful manner.
RIP Frank. I love you.
