Former FT journalist Mark Huband of Yorkshire dies at 58

Mark Huband Death – Passed Away: Mark Huband, a British author, poet, and former FT journalist died suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving his family in a devastating and tragic moment. No cause of death is given at the time of this publication. He was 58 years old at the time of death. Mark was a careful and thorough reporter with exceptional descriptive abilities. He was also described as “intellectually and physically courageous.”

Mark Christopher Huband was born in Yorkshire in 1963 and grew up in Essex. He went to Harlow’s Burnt Mill Comprehensive School and graduated from the University of Manchester. After receiving his MA in Journalism from Cardiff University, he went freelance in Abidjan in 1990, where he met his Ivorian wife, Marceline, an expert in African tribal art, at a jazz club. They tied the knot in Paris. Olivier and Zara were their two children.

Huband was among the first journalists to enter Rwanda in 1994 when the genocide began. He reported for the Financial Times from the Middle East, where he was among the first to predict al-rise, Qaeda’s most notably in his 1998 book Warriors of the Prophet after leaving Africa. He wrote eight books on Africa, the Middle East, and global affairs, as well as a memoir and five poetry pamphlets. Huband’s interests included his family, politics, and poetry.
