Father, daughter killed in three-car accident on Macleod Trail in Calgary

37-year-old father and 7-year-old daughter dead, 11-year-old girl seriously injured in a three-car accident on Macleod Trail in Calgary

According to the Calgary Police Service, a 37-year-old man, and his 7-year-old daughter have died, an 11-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition following a multi-car accident that happened on Wednesday evening, November 24, 2021. The incident happened around 5:20 p.m. in the 12800 block of Macleod Trail S.E. in Calgary.

The incident involving three vehicles happened near Lake Fraser Gate S.E when a three-quarter-ton pick-up truck operated by a 50-year-old man northbound on Macleod Trail in the left-hand lane struck a sedan with three occupants from behind. The impact of the collision caused the sedan to spin, cross the center of the media into southbound lanes, and was struck by a half-ton truck.

After the collision, the three sedan occupants who were trapped in the car were extricated by the Calgary Fire Department. Unfortunately, the 37-year-old father and his 7-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the 11-year-old girl was rushed in serious condition to the hospital bust was later discharged to recover from home.

On the other hand, the driver of the three-quarter-ton truck continued traveling northbound after the crash, veered off the center median and the southbound lanes, drove to the shoulder and onto the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks before coming to a stop. The driver who did not suffer injuries left the site of the crash on foot. The driver was later arrested a short distance away. He was taken into custody and charged with dangerous driving causing death and several other charges. While the half-ton truck driver came out of the crash unharmed.
