As I say my prayers before closing my eyes for the night, an e-mail comes in about the passing of a sweet, sweet spirit. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc has lost another Precious Pearl and our chain within The Links, Inc has been broken yet again. I will always remember that beautiful voice, that glowing smile and those sisterly greetings whenever I saw her. The 24th International President of AKA, Dr. Eva Lois Evans, is now an Ivy Beyond The Wall and is back with her dear friend and The 21st International President, Faye Beverly Bryant. A great loss for our beloved sisterhood. Thank you for your guidance, your wisdom, your grace and your sisterliness. May you Rest In Eternal Peace my dear Soror.

Dr. Eva Lois Evans-Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s 24th International President, gained her heavenly wings earlier this week. Our global sisterhood loved and respected this accomplished, brilliant, articulate, elegant, kind and sisterly icon, who proudly claimed “ The Big L“ (Lansing, Michigan) as home. Dr. Evans took our sorority to new heights with her innovative signature program “Partnership in Mathematics and Science (PIMs) where she helped us plan and get ready for the emerging tech world. She saw the future and helped AKA women and our communities, get comfortable in that space. She also encouraged many young people to pursue science and medical careers.
Dr. Evans had the “personal touch” and helped guide my sorority and personal journey. Every major career, family and sorority milestone, she was there providing sisterly wisdom and advice.
While still at a loss for words and through many tears, I smile for a life well lived. We are also reminded of a popular hymn that I will paraphrase “She touched Me!” When I was a young member, she placed me in a national sorority appointment on her International Program Committee. But I also worked closely with Dr, Evans in the National Council of Negro Women where she was a National Vice President. I would assist with tasks and tag along at NCNW Conferences where she showed me how to work with women from different groups. I was so proud to be one of her special mentees. Dr. Evans pinned me as 29th International President. When I completed office, she placed the pearls and lei around my neck. As International AKA President, I had a chance to say thank you, along with her beloved Great Lakes Region, where we partnered to have a school In the Lansing School District, of which she served as the first woman Deputy Superintendent, named in her honor. The Dr. Eva L. Evans Welcome Center will forever stand as a shining beacon to her service, dedication and commitment to young people. Soar on songbird as you join the great celestial choir. Jesus will and he did! #ToGodBeTheGlory #AKA1908 #TheSupremes #Sisterhood #AME #NCNW #TheLinksInc
