Professor Chris Pickvance was an Emeritus Professor of Urban Studies. Pickvance worked on urban, regional and environmental topics and has made positive impacts on theoretical debates and to the analysis of central and local government policy. His works is also focused on household responses to dissatisfaction, including protest and individual behaviors.

Comparative analysis was a special interest for Professor Pickvance and he has conducted sociological research in both western and eastern Europe.
