Elmer C. Henretta former president of RochesterTA has died

Elmer Henretta Death – Cause of Death – Elmer C. Henretta former president of RochesterTA, passed away on the 5th of December 2021. Elmer graduated from St. Ambrose, Aquinas Institute, and St. Bonaventure University. He started his career as an English teacher in the West Irondequoit School District. He later worked for more than 30 years at the Rochester City School District as a teacher, building representative, lead negotiator, and longtime president of the Rochester Teacher’s Association.

His obituary created by Legacy stated that Elmer also served as a representative to the National Education Association (NEA) and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) organizations. He is survived by his children Deb (Sean Murray), Michael (Lisa Marino), Mark (Joan Graham); grandchildren Caitlin (David Pyrak), Connor, Shannon, Carolyn (Brian) McPike, Johanna, Sarah, & Sean; great-granddaughter Chloe; sister-in-law Marlene “Mickey” (Greg) Gargan; nephew Chris (Lori) Gargan; niece Stacey (Ryan) Clemens; life long friends Harry Williams, Gene Drexel, & Jack Palvino. He is predeceased by his wife Dr. Carol Bieck Henretta.

According to his obituary, calling hours will be held 4-7 Friday, December 17 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road. Funeral mass 10:30 Saturday, December 18 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church 5000 Mt. Read Blvd followed by interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.

Justin Murphy said in a tweet; “Elmer Henretta, president of @RochesterTA from ~1972-80, died this week. He bargained for higher wages & filed complaint on behalf of pregnant teachers, among other things (teachers then weren’t guaranteed their job upon return from maternity leave).”
