I can’t wrap my head around this, and maybe I, we ever will..
My first “kiss” on the cheek, my first “boyfriend”, the one who got called “the kid who licks paint”, the one who parkoured everywhere & I mean… everywhere… the “i am going to be a professional snowboarder one day”
Eli McDermott. 18 years young.
In the 2nd grade, we were getting ready for what was called, “morning meeting” We would all run to the carpet wanting to get to the first letter of our first name to sit on (we’ve all been there, don’t lie to me) Well, Eli would run to the R so he could save it for me to sit on. (he was so sweet) I can’t remember what time of year it was, but Eli decided to ask one of his best friends at the time, Tyler McClure, to run over to me, and ask me to be his (Elis) girlfriend. Boy did i get red.. but it was an obvious loud “yes!” Eli and I would spend every recess together, many lunches, and would always sit at morning meeting together. Me on the R, and him on the Q (he always said nobody wanted it anyways.. lol) Oh and one day at recess, we used to have this monkey bar thing, it was this big half circle that you could climb up on and in, it was really cool (he kissed me on the cheek under it, so funny) Well Eli being Eli and doing his “parkouring”, fell and hurt himself. I can’t remember if he ended up actually breaking his arm or not.. but they soon got rid of it after this..
Eli and I were very close throughout the years of him being at Fair Haven Grade School. I don’t really even remember if we officially “broke up” lol!
In 3rd grade, I didn’t sit with Eli in Mrs. Kramer’s art class one day, so he decided to literally lick green paint off from the paint brush.. lol from then, it was “the kid who licks paint” in a joking manner, of course. Everyone absolutely loved Eli. Wish we could be little forever!
Eli ended up going to a new school to be the “professional snowboarder” he always told us he was going to be. (I mean, he had been snowboarding since he was 8 or 9, and then at 14 he was up in Maine doing what he loved)
I was happy for Eli.
We would message one another through instagram here and there checking in, but we did drift apart.. I really hate that.
I’m so proud of you for accomplishing everything you did. What at incredible person you were… still are.
I won’t lie, I chuckled to myself when I saw the missing persons post online.. I really laughed to myself.. I really thought you took off to chase another wild dream, or do something out of your own spark of interest.. because that sounded like Eli.
My heart aches we didn’t talk more..knowing that it just wasn’t your time.. you had more things to do, places to see, people to meet, goals to achieve.. My heart aches for you Eli..
I am so sorry, my friend.
Here’s to you, to always chasing dreams & having a wild heart. May your soul, mind, and body be at peace
