Elderly Okahumpka man dies in Lake County wrong-way accident

Elderly Okahumpka man dies in a wrong-way car accident on U.S. Highway 27 in Lake County, Florida 

A yet-to-be-identified 82-year-old man from Okahumpka has passed away following injuries suffered from a three-car accident that happened on Monday evening, December 6, 2021. The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and El Presidente Boulevard in Lake County, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Okahumpka man operating a sedan on U.S. 27. northbound in the southbound lanes. At the same time, a 36-year-old Clermont woman was driving an SUV southbound while a 24-year-old Clermont man was operating another SUV southbound behind the SUV driven by the Clermont woman. The sedan then collided head-on with the SUV driver by the Clermont woman, which also triggered the SUV driven by the Clermont man to crash into the woman’s SUV.

Following the collision, the Okahumpka man sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after succumbing to his injuries. Two other SUVs drivers were hospitalized with injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
