Durham police investigate shooting at Southpoint Mall

Southpoint Shooting – Police in Durham are investigating a shooting incident at the Streets on the Southpoint area on Sunday afternoon that prompted a chaos inside the mall as shoppers scamper for safety during the incident.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of Southpoint mall, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Police say officials were originally investigating the reports of a suspicious person with a weapon inside the mall. Arriving officers received an active shooters report. Officials were unable to locate a gunman or victim.

Investigators say the incident is not random, and there were no reported injures. Police were already at the mall providing increased security when the incident happened. A man was robbed three weeks ago. The man selling jewelry at The Streets at Southpoint exchanged gunfire with two men trying to rob him on Black Friday.

Three people were injured in that shooting, including one of the suspected robbers. Three other people were hurt during chaos as shoppers fled the crowded mall or looked for safety.
