Dear STEEL family and friends,

It is with great sadness that we announce to you the untimely and sudden passing of our friend, father, brother, teacher and coach, Doug Goessman on September 20. Coach G. has been the cornerstone of the baseball community in the Peoria area for the past 10 years as the STEEL Co-Founder and Richwoods Varsity High School Coach. His 12 years of dedication to coaching, teaching and his devotion to Richwoods High School made him a lovable coach and teacher. He will be greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathies are with his children, Shea, Addison, Ada and Cade, his mother Lucinda and his immediate family and friends. We would like to acknowledge and thank all our players, friends and families who have embraced us with sympathy and support during this difficult time.

We love you G 🖤

Coach B

It is with great sadness that I must share that on September 20th at 11:02 pm, Doug Goessman passed away at the University of Chicago Medical Center of liver failure as a result of his very recent multiple myeloma cancer diagnosis. Doug was a proud father of 4 children, Shea (22), Addison (14), Ada (10) and Cade (6).

He was an art teacher and the Head Varsity Baseball coach at Richwoods High School. He was a co-founder of the 3n2 Illinois Steel Baseball program and was instrumental in helping players see their potential and continue to follow their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. He was a talented local artist, known for his pop art style, featuring many of his favorite characters from his youth. He fought bravely to the end and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

His family would like to thank all of his friends, students, players, and colleagues for all of their prayers and support, showing Doug that he was not fighting this battle alone. Services are pending. We plan to have a Celebration of Life event after COVID restrictions are lifted.

I love you Dad!

The Peoria baseball community is mourning the death of Richwoods baseball coach Doug Goessman, who was also the co-founder of the summer travel team called Illinois Steel. Goessman, 51, coached at Richwoods nine years but was also an art teacher. He showed us his creative side during the early days of the quarantine on a visit to his art studio in downtown Peoria in April.

Thoughts go out to anyone close to Doug Goessman. Coach G was always a tremendous help educating our staff on players from the Peoria area, and was a blast to be around during ABCA conventions and summer travel baseball. He will be missed greatly.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
