Douglas Robert Canney who was welcomed into the world on the 6th of August 1970 has sadly passed away on Friday 24th of September 2021 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital.
He was born in Salem to Diane M. (Pare) Canney and George T. Canney. Doug graduated from Salem High School in 1989, where he played baseball, football, and basketball.
He was a member of the Salem High Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989 when he joined the Los Angeles Angels.
Doug worked as a commercial fisherman for longtime Captain and friend, Phil Powell for many years. He also captained his own vessel, the ‘Lady Di.”
Doug is survived by his mother. Diane M. Canney, his father George T. Canney; his brother, Mathew W. Canney, His maternal auntie Janine Pare and Uncle Ronald Pare; David and Mark; his devoted friend and companion, Melissa Wallace of Beverly, as well as cousins Justin and Jacob Pare, paternal aunts and uncles, Bonnie Canney, Kathy Canney, Carolyn Blain, Paula Milligan, Priscilla, and Rich Buonfiglio, Elizabeth and William Coombes, Claire and Dan Boutilier, Susan and Tom Richardson; as well as his paternal cousins, Moe, Chuck, Jeff, Barbara, Greg, Jeremy, Jessica, Ryan, Amanda, Kristin, Jonathan, Nathan, Ian, and Andrew.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. (Route 114/1A), Salem, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. All other services will be private. Salem requires protective face coverings for indoors.
