It was with great sadness that we learned this morning of the death of Fr Don Edgar.
Don spent his life advocating and caring for those most in need especially from migrant and marginalised communities. He was recognised with an Order of Australia for his tireless work.
Of course he was central to the founding of the River Nile Learning Centre (RNLC) with Judie Bainbridge coming out of the Footscray Anglican Parish in the early 2000’s. Without them RNLC (and in turn RNS) would not exist.
Don had a vision of an Australia where everyone had equal access to resources and opportunity and worked determinedly to try to bring that about. He valued education as part of this vision and saw RNLC as a vehicle to deliver that. A now thriving RNS and RNLC brought him much satisfaction I know, and every day works to honour that vision.
In the difficult Covid-19 situation we find ourselves in, we will have to wait for a suitable time to celebrate his incredible contribution to the River Nile.
A great man, sadly missed.
