RIP Dmitry Paperno, a laureate in the 1955 Chopin competition and was proud to be the first artist recorded by Cedille Records’ Jim Ginsburg, in WFMT’s studios. He and his lovely wife Ludmilla were frequent guests in a store I managed in the 2000s. Dmitry has passed at the age of 91.
At Cedille, we were all saddened to learn of the passing of pianist Dmitry Paperno (1929–2020) yesterday morning. A major artist in the Soviet Union who emigrated to Chicago in 1977, he was the very first recording artist for Cedille Records.
