Detective Antonio Valentine dies in Bellefontaine Neighbors head-on collision

Antonio Antoine Valentine Death – Cause of Death : 42-year-old Detective Antonio Antoine Valentine, of the St. Louis County Police Department, has lost in life in a car crash that happened while discharging his duties. The head-on collision that claimed the life of Detective Valentine happened on Wednesday, afternoon December 1, 2021, at Crete Drive and Chambers Road in Bellefontaine Neighbors at about 2:10 p.m.

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the loss of one of our officers, Antonio Valentine. He passed away today in the line of duty. He has been a part of our police family since 2007. This has shaken our department. Please pray for his family, co-workers & friends.” St. Louis County PD tweeted.

According to report, the Drug Unit Detectives of St. Louis County PD were carrying out an investigation and tried to stop a black Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the car failed to stop at sped off westbound on Chambers Road. Valentine and another detective responded to the site in an unmarked police Dodge Caravan. Shortly after, the Jetta crossed the centreline near Crete Drive and rammed the police SUV.

Following the collision, Valentine sustained serious injuries and was transported alongside the other office to Barnes Jewish Hospital where he succumbed to his injures. The other officer was treated and released from the hospital. The Jetta driver who was later identified as 33-year-old Alfred Mayes was transported to an area hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries. The Jetta was reportedly stolen in October.

Valentine’s also served in United States Army from July 1999 to February 2000. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army National Guard from February 2000 to January 2011.

Visitation will hold on December 9 at Layne Renaissance Chapel on Florissant Avenue from 5-8 p.m. while celebration of life Mass will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, 4431 Lindell Blvd. Military Honors and Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
