As an educator, we aren’t supposed to have favorites. Deshaun Duré was one of the few exceptions to that rule. Five short years ago you walked into Mount Pleasant, into my classroom for the first time, full of potential, full of charisma, and full of life. You always smiled, always laughed, and your energy was contagious, no one would be bored if they were in your presence. I will always remember the lengthy conversations about life and basketball, but mostly basketball. You would crack on me any chance you got, but you were ALWAYS respectful, to everyone. You livened up Teacher Academy, when I got stuck with you for a second straight year (which ultimately turned into a blessing). I’d catch you around the neighborhood, whether you forgot to get milk for your grandma or you were just chillin with your boys, and you always went out of your way to catch up with me. You always gave the best man hugs, always. I will forever cherish the memories and moments that we shared over the past few years, and it breaks my heart to realize I won’t see you anymore. You changed my life for the better, in more ways than one. You’ll always be remembered and always have a special place in my heart. I love you D! Look over Ray and Trè Ace right now, they need you. Rest peacefully my guy.
I’m still up hurt! Good people should never die so young! One of the most respectful kids I have ever met now to rest. These are the real reasons I began coaching, to prevent things like this. Deshaun Duré this hurts like I’ve known you my whole life and I’ve only been here 5 years. We needed more like you in this world. From Rhode Island Tigers to Athletic Youth Academy you’ve always had a smile on your face! Tears are falling again man… I’m done typing… Rest well JD! I promise you will not be forgotten
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
