“In God’s hand you rest,in our hearts you remain forever and ever brother Don David Olang till we meet again”
“Don was a kindhearted, generous and smart individual with a great sense of humor. As a recipient of his kindness and generosity, I will miss him greatly.
Don was a brother to me (from another father & mother), born 1 year and one month apart. Our late fathers were close siblings, one born before the other. Don was named David Donald after my father and I was named Christopher James after his father.
Our parents made sure we spent plenty of time together growing up. During school holidays, I would either travel to Mombasa to be with them, Don and Bill would come to Nairobi to be with us or we would all go to Maseno to be with our late grandpa.
As we grew up to become young adults, we spent even more time together in Nairobi while at college (different colleges, same city UoN and Kenya Poly) and even post college early career days (lots of stories here that I will save for another day).
Later on we drifted apart as we both started our families and careers but, we kept in touch. We started a tradition where we would call each other every year in the last 10 years to wish each other a happy birthday (2011 to 2020), regardless where in the world we were as we both travelled for work, except last year where we stopped the calls and send WhatsApp messages instead, was this a sign my brother?
I will miss you, I love you, I will never forget you. This is not a goodbye but, it is a till we meet again.”
