It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that our staff member, Dave Ravenhill, died suddenly from an apparent heart attack on Monday July 20th. We know that this news comes as a great shock, and that many in our school and greater community will be deeply impacted.

I have been in contact with the Ravenhill family, and they have given me permission to share with our Reynolds family about this tragic loss of life. Mr. Ravenhill was a pillar of our Reynolds community who was proud of our school and students.

Due to COVID restrictions, we will not be opening the school for a memory event, but we do have a mailbox at the front door of Reynolds School for individuals to drop off letters or cards if they wish. The box will be available for people to put items in starting on Thursday July 23rd until Friday August 7th from 9am until 2pm each day. Please respect physical distancing when visiting the drop off. We will collate all condolences and share with the family by the end of July. At this time due to COVID the family will be having a small family only service but is hopeful that after COVID restrictions are changed that a larger celebration of life is able to be held.

This tragedy is compounded for many by the losses already experienced by our school last year, and the pandemic makes it more difficult for us to support each other and come together as a community. There are resources attached that are available if your child needs additional support with processing this difficult news, and school counsellors will be available in September.

We will continue to update you as we receive more information from Dave’s family, and I am sorry to have to share such upsetting news with all of you.

Respectfully,

Tom Aerts

Principal
