Paying tribute to our assistant coach Dave Peltz who passed away unexpectedly last week at the age of 61. Dave made an everlasting impact on our program. We are incredibly thankful for our time together and his memory will always live on.
The world lost a really good one yesterday. Not quite sure where to begin, but I along with a band of brothers from other mother’s lost one of our best friends. I rec’d the news that my life long buddy Dave Peltz shockingly died yesterday. “Doc” and I became fast friends back in WFB high school days and continued on with us becoming college roommates for a few years. Our intense friendship and brotherhood continued to this day. He was always on my very short list of must see people upon return visits home through the years. Our shared love of playing hoops till the wee small hours of the morning, the countless laughs, the jabs and poking at each other will be ectched in my mind for eternity. His voice I will never forget.
Bill Miller called me yesterday to share this shocking news, I spent several hours catching up and reminiscing with Ron Rumack. I was able to speak with his son DJ who had the strength to call me back. But this was a tough one. I’ve lost friends, family members, but losing a soul mate is tough. To Young. So much life ahead. What a great husband, father, friend. One of the toughest but sweetest souls I’ve ever met. To many memories to share.
Marries my high school classmate Jenny and they go on to create 3 fabulous kids DJ, Michelle and Sam(antha) all great athletes and kids. DJ, his buddy Joel and Dad (Doc) created Delta Sports performance academy in Glendale, only to have to battle with Covid this year. But it will live on. I’m so glad he was able to have so much quality time with DJ who is one hell of a young man. I wish I knew his kids better, tough living years and miles apart, but in my heart I believe they know how much I care about them through the sheer force of my love for their mom and dad.
I last saw Doc last November for our last meal together, a typical, but always great time to catch up, reminisce but also talk about what was going on in the world. It was a great 2 hour breakfast catch-up.
There are so many stories I want to share, so many good times. This for me came out of nowhere. Apparently he been experiencing symptoms that concerned the family, went in for tests to determine magnitude of what was discovered… But in the end, complications after some surgery arose, he didn’t make it out. I don’t know if I’m at liberty to say much more, but I cannot hold back my pain any longer and needed to share of those who loved him, our loss.
I’m glad he was able to love and care for his mother Cissie and grandmother for many years who were like family to me as well. He was a great dad and loved his dogs like his children. Beezer, Jeter, and more. Just a great big heart and brilliant…I mean brilliant guy who lived life on his terms. Helicopter pilot (who could have died in a crash 30 years ago). An art house owner. A coach. An athlete. A great musician (#5 guys with day jobs) live life by the beat of his own drummer of which he was one as well. Used to get A’s in college. Never studied. Mr DIY guy. So much more. Smart dude.
You’ll be missed Doc, more than you know. You’ve created and left behind a legacy of kids and friends that will keep you alive for many many years to come.
I miss you deeply, I cannot believe you are gone and I hope to see you again one day for another epic game or laugh. I love you my brother.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
