Darnell Calhoun Death – The family of a Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy who was slain in the line of duty the previous week in Lake Elsinore is speaking out about their loss. According to what Sheriff Chad Bianco told at the news conference held a week ago, Deputy Darnell Calhoun, who was 30 years old, was shot on January 13 while responding to a complaint involving domestic violence and a dispute over child custody. The incident took place in the 18500 block of Hilldale Lane soon before 5 o’clock in the evening.

Calhoun was transported to the Inland Valley Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Late on that Friday night, his body was transported from the hospital in Wildomar to the coroner’s office in Perris, and a procession accompanied it the entire way. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on behalf of the Calhoun family on Monday, and part of that message read as follows: Since Darnell’s tragic death, our family has been showered with an outpouring of love and support from our community, for which we are immensely grateful.

We are mourning the loss of Darnell, but at the same time we are celebrating the gift that he was to us as a husband, father, son, brother, and deputy. The fact that his life was cut short is a blessing in disguise. Our confidence in Jesus will see us through this difficult time, and we are confident that we will one day be reunited with Darnell. The statement went on to note that Calhoun’s passion and dedication to family and community serve as an inspiration, as well as the fact that he was “genuine, kind, loyal, and had the heart of a servant.” “We take great comfort in knowing that Darnell led a life well lived.

Candlelight held

We are grateful to our community, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and law enforcement agencies around the country that have uplifted us,” the family said. In memory of Calhoun, there will be a vigil with candlelight held on Tuesday evening in Lake Elsinore. Calhoun is a father of two young boys, one who is 4 years old and the other who is 2 years old. He was about to welcome a third baby boy before he died. His wife and their family are the only ones who will remember him. A relief fund in support of the Calhoun family has been established by the Riverside Sheriff’s Association.
