It’s a very sad day with the news that Clancy Imislund died. Clancy was the most knowledgeable man in the world in my book when it came to addiction & recovery and the big picture about the two worldwide. I did not know him personally that well, I heard him speak live on a couple occasions, his biggest impact on me was the numerous talks I listened to on cd over and over again. I believe he is one of the largest contributors to recovery coming back from going full circle and now a world slowly but surly going back to basics to strong sponsorship and a book originally titled “The Way Out” and Finally titled Alcoholics Anonymous in 1938-39. I’ve tried to reach out to him several times through the years to help answer a statement he made in one of his talks. He said that “Over 90% of all alcoholics/addicts globally are going to end up dying in active addiction believing that their case is different.” He went on to say “Its been that way since the beginning and will probably continue for many many more years.
My questions for him was…. what can or what are we going to do about it?
He never responded….. he just kept leading by example.
So sorry to hear that Clancy Imislund passed away this morning. He will be missed and loved by many. He contributed so much to our community. RIP dear friend. I am so glad I got to meet and hear you.

THANK YOU Clancy Imislund .
Rest In Peace.
I’ll never forget my first time walking into the Pacific Group, it wasn’t 2 minutes before this old man singled me out, approached me, and literally grabbed me by my huge gauge earrings and tugged on them harder than anyone ever had… he gave me a look like “what is this junk in your ears?” and he looked me dead in the eye and said, “you’re new kid… aren’t you?” And I said “yes”, he still had his hands on my ears, when he said in absolutely sincere voice, “you are welcome here” then he got a little giddy smile and tugged a little harder “keep coming back son”
I didn’t know it was Clancy himself, I thought it was just an old drunk with a death wish. 🙂 Harold Ciccone said to me, “talking to the old man already?” I said “that was Clancy?” He said “yes”
I did feel welcome, I did keep coming back. I’ve been sober since then.
There were a lot of misconceptions regarding Clancy and the Pacific Group, but after looking that old fart in the eyes and experiencing his true heartfelt welcome, I knew most everything I heard was a bunch of hogwash.
Clancy was a real A.A.
I feel completely blessed to have grown up in the Pacific Group, I feel completely blessed to have gotten sober around these old timers.
If you never got to hear Clancy talk, go to YouTube and search “Clancy I A.A” his breakdown of alcoholism was one of the most coherent and well thought out explanations of the disease of alcoholism I had ever heard.
Clancy, thank you, if it weren’t for you and the group that you founded I would probably have eaten a bullet by now. You helped me and other members of my family change and become sober humans.
God Bless you Clancy I.
