It is with an endless sadness that you just learned of the passing of Mrs. Fol on June 21th, surrounded by her family, at the age of 54 She died after fighting brain cancer for 2 years.
A former student of the College, Ms. Fol graduated from the Montreal Polytechnique in 1988, in physical engineering, and completed her training at the University of Ottawa in 2005 to teach high school science.
Before returning as a teacher at the College, she taught physics one year at Villa Ste-Marcelline in 1987-1988, and then won “La Race of the Americas” where she produced 23 short films in 26 weeks across the three Americas. Ms. Fol has also been an author and then director at the National Film Board of Canada (scientific films). She has also worked as a designer at the Musée de la civilization de Québec (scientific exhibitions) and speaker and speaker at different universities and scientific organizations.
A brilliant, educated and passionate woman, she was, upon her arrival at the College, a beloved and highly valued teacher of her students and many owe her their vocation in the field of health. Ms. Fol was an excellent vulgarisatrice and a demanding scientist that led young people to develop their intellectual curiosity and to go beyond themselves.
Ms. Fol has worked hard for respect for women, her assertion and recognition of her priceless contribution to society, especially in the traditional male fields.
We sincerely mourn her passing because she was a highly appreciated woman of the nuns, her colleagues and all those who had the chance to cross her road.
We offer our deepest condolences to her husband whom she loved so much and who accompanied her with so much love throughout her illness, her two daughters, our former students, worthy daughters of their mother, Mikaèle and Madeleine, and to all his loved ones.
The funeral ceremony will take place in the privacy of the family, but a Mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-des-Angels church with colleagues and former students as soon as the restrictions related to the pandemic are lifted. We’ll let the old students know when the date is over.
Dear Mrs. Fol, thank you for training with so much love generations of young Marcellines, for giving them confidence, for marking them for life. Thank you also for your testimony of strength and serenity in the disease. In the face of adversity, you have been uplifting and admirable.
In his memory, the Mendel Science Lab will be named: Catherine Fol Laboratory.
May the Virgin Mary, whom you loved so much, accompany you to the Light. Rest in the peace of God…
