Carol A. Bush Death – Carol Bush, a philanthropist who supported adolescents and women in the Green Bay area for more than 60 years through providing opportunities, passed away on January 6. She was 96 years old. Bush’s late husband Robert, who passed away in 2019, also shared her lifetime interest for fostering community support. The Bushes aggressively sponsored the arts, higher education, early childhood education, women’s sports, and organizations that helped children, women’s sports, health care, and culture, demonstrating their charity seemed to know no bounds. According to Missy Schmeling, executive director of Encompass Early Education and Care, “They left a legacy far into the future,” “She is one of those warm, sincere, and honest individuals.

Information in details

Really, the entire family is. They embrace local families and children with open arms.” Carol’s tremendous laugh, gorgeous smile, and inexhaustible energy and imagination for anything Green Bay nonprofits needed, from huge fundraisers to the tiny things most people don’t see, are remembered by family and community leaders. Carol always offered enthusiastic, sincere, and genuine support. She undoubtedly had a lasting impression on the community of Green Bay and served as an inspiration for innumerable women and families, including Tracy Arndt, her siblings, and their offspring and grandkids, according to one of Bob and Carol’s four children, Tracy Arndt.  “I never really thought of it growing up, but she was a courageous leader,” Arndt said.

“She seemed to see needs in the community and address them. She didn’t need permission (to get involved).” Carol was the first person to contact Kevin Borseth when the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay hired him to coach its women’s basketball team in 1998. She wanted to discuss how she and Bob could support the players, assist the program, and welcome the Borseth family to the Green Bay region rather than defensive strategies or recruiting. The Bushes frequently hosted the team for team-building exercises at their home. The Borseths grew close with the Bushes, as well. “The entire community lost a huge friend and supporter. They were all about Green Bay, Bob and Carol and their entire family,” Borseth said.

Her decades of community service in Green Bay have already begun to receive honors, accolades, and acknowledgment. A memorial ceremony will be held at Old St. Joseph Church, 123 Grant St., in De Pere on the St. Norbert College campus, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. A memorial service honoring Carol will be conducted at the Bemis Conference Center, also on the St. Norbert campus, after the service. Carol’s family has asked that all memorial contributions be made to Encompass, a charity she supported for more than 65 years and who shares her motto “It’s for the children”

UW-Green Bay expressed sympathy

The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team will pay tribute to Bush at noon on Sunday, January 22, when they take against Robert Morris University at the Kress Events Center. Additionally, Bellin Health President Chris Woleske stated that executives are currently debating how to recognize Carol’s sustained commitment and support. “Carol was a force for good,” said Chris Woleske, Bellin Health president. “She wanted to bring out the good in people. Over the course of her existence, she had a tremendous impact on this area and was an incredibly upbeat person. She was a good friend to Bellin, and to me.” Carol had a lot of love for the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, and we will miss her enthusiasm, kind nature, and commitment to the institution. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family at this difficult time.
