Burlington Bees confirmed the death of Tom Walz of Burlington, Iowa, on Facebook on Thursday, December 2, 2021. At the time of this article, the circumstances surrounding his death remained unknown.
Tom Walz, a lifetime native of Burlington, Iowa, graduated from Burlington High School in 1967. Tom worked as a police officer at BSD security for many years. During his service, he exemplified the mantra “protect and serve.” He was a blessing to the Burlington community as an officer.
While announcing the sudden passing of Tom Walz, Burlington Bees posted on their Facebook page, “This morning as I walked over to third base where you stood so many years rooting on your home team…I could still hear your voice shouting “Go Bees!” We can’t believe you’re gone. You were a Bees fan to your core and over the years when we needed help…just like many other organizations and people throughout this community can say with 100% certainty…YOU SHOWED UP! Tom Walz, you were the first one to show up to volunteer to wrap thousands of hot dogs each kids day and you truly were one in a million. Mr Burlington through and through. Thank you for your support, your volunteerism and your friendship to our organization over the years! You are truly missed. May you rest in peace.”
Brenda Dean Schwind also posted on her Facebook page, “We both knew you before we knew each other…. and hold a very special bond with David. I am sure we will never truly understand why you left us early. You were loved by so many people and will be truly missed Tom Walz SALUTE!”
