Journalist Bruce Eggler Death – Dead | Obituary – Passed Away

Bruce Eggler Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Bruce Eggler.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

FAD and BWE, 4-ever in my heart. Love you boys. Devastated to hear of the passing of Bruce Eggler — The Egg Man — a gentleman, a lover of the arts and one of the most dedicated journalists ever. New Orleans was lucky to have him in the trenches for so long. Take care, Bruce. You and Frank can wrangle over ledes together. Please send us some words while you’re at it.

Just heard Bruce Eggler passed, and let me tell you. He was one of the best editors, an editor I try to emulate. Not heavy handed, and he explained any edits he made. Also we kept our workspaces looking the same. -30-

I can totally see him doing this: “Eggler … was also known to correct City Council members from his chair during meetings if they misspoke about proposed legislation or did not properly follow meeting procedures.”

Bruce was my first editor. I still remember him circling all the errors in my stories every night with a colored pen. 😳 He was gruff and meticulous and truly a legend. I will miss you, Bruce.

This long-ago tweet encapsulates Bruce Eggler, and the journalistic enigma he was. He spent time editing bud lines. Journalism was life. If you’d ask for a story, “you’ll get it when you get it.” You gave him sass, he gave it back, and if you were good at it, he’d add a smile.

I finally found this AP photo of Bruce Eggler from the day in 1997 when The Times-Picayune won its first Pulitzers. Celebratory brass band parading through the newsroom? Forget it, there’s work to do! RIP Bruce

To the man who made sure that I never… ever, ever, ever forgot to include the City Council vote breakdown in even the most boring writes — and made me a better reporter and citizen for it. RIP, Eggler

Saddened to learn the news of the passing of my good friend and mentor, Bruce Eggler. His career stretched more than 50 years, from The Tulane Hullabaloo to the Vieux Carre Courier, to Figaro, The States-Item, Times-Picayune and New Orleans Advocate.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
