Authorities found the body of a missing man in the water at Cove Island
According to a report reaching us at this time, Stamford police say the body of a missing 55-year-old man was found in the water at Cove Island Park with suspicious canisters, forcing the closure of the area.
On Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. the Stamford Police Department was called to Cove Island Park while investigating a report of a missing Stamford resident.
The car of the missing 55-year-old was discovered at Cove Island Park, and police searched the park using the department’s K-9 unit.
The body of the man was discovered in the water during the search. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State medical examiner’s office also responded to the scene. During an initial examination of the body, two suspicious canisters were discovered on the man’s body.
Police say the park was evacuated and closed when the canisters were found. The department’s bomb squad unit was called to the scene. the canisters looked like pipes and had lead balls in them but no explosives.
The cause of death is still under investigation, but police say it’s not believed to be suspicious.
