1/ Just opened Twitter after many hours & saw this.
Sad news indeed.
Bernard Bailyn was truly a giant of early American history. His work had an enormous influence on the field–for many decades. He remained eagerly involved in the work of younger scholars until the end. https://t.co/sJebNi6y8m

Sad news about the passing of Bernard Bailyn, along with Ed Morgan, one of the 2 giants of early American history in the 20th century. His work, especially “The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution,” had a big impact on me when I read it years before going to school.

In undergrad, I once asked if you were even allowed to write a book on early America without citing Bernard Bailyn. He will be so missed.

It is with deep sorrow that I share news of the death of Bernard Bailyn (1922-2020) earlier today. Truly a giant: a fine friend, inspirational colleague, and unmatched historian of early America and the Atlantic world. His like will not come again. Vale, Bud.
