Very saddened tonight to hear of the passing of Ben Jorgensen. I’ve known him for 25 plus years & we remained friends & got together once or twice a year. He was an actor & would always invite me to attend & photograph off-Broadway plays he did throughout the years. Ben’s big break came when he was cast to star in a movie that was written by Vincent Van Patten called “The Break.” He told me he owed his career to Vincent as he brought him into the business. They lost touch after the movie came out. Fast forward 26 years later to last summer when I photographed the screening of a new movie that Vincent wrote & starred in. I told Ben I would see him there & he asked me to pass along his regards & tell him he’s been trying to reconnect with him for many years but never found a way. When I told that to Vincent, he asked me to call him up & see if he’d want to come to the screening. I did, Ben quickly shot over to the theater & they got to see eachother again. I remember how excited they both were to reconnect there. He was a sweet, quirky and caring guy. He was only 51. Here is the photo I took of him last summer with Vincent, the last time I saw him. May he rest in peace.
Sad news to report. Ben Jorgensen who played Kevin Sheffield on All My Children has past away at 51 years old. My understanding is it was suicide. I have heard he suffered from Bipolar disorder but as I have not spoke to him in years I do not know all the details. I just want to remember the good times we had on the set of All My Children 24 years ago. He was a good guy and had the courage to play a gay teenager on tv back when it was nowhere near as common to have representation as it is today. He was part of an award winning storyline…but mostly we just had some good times back then…my condolences go out to his friends and family. Please everybody hang in there and reach out for help if you need it.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
