Lorraine Eiler Death – Cause Of Death: Basketball SA Hall of Fame Legend and Lorraine Eiler has passed away at the age after a prolonged illness, leaving behind her family, friends, and the world of sport in great anguish. Her death was made known to the public by Basketball South Australia through their Facebook publication on Tuesday 14th December 2021.
According to the Basketball South Australia statement which says “DEEPEST CONDOLENCES | Basketball SA is saddened by the passing of Lorraine Eiler this week, a Basketball SA Hall of Fame Legend. May she rest in peace. She was a talented and creative woman who was elevated to Legend status in the Basketball SA Hall of Fame.
She was an A-Grade tennis participant for East Torrens, which earned a victory in the singles and doubles tournaments, Lorraine was a great lover of basketball, a sport she first discovered as a teenager in the year 1953. She was captain of the South Australia group in 1955, she continued as a captain to the Australian championship tournament and also in 1956 before she was called the captain of the Australian Opals team which paid its own way to compete at the 1957 FIBA World Championship in Brazil.
The Basketball SA described her as a “sporting superstar in South Australia and Australia, as both a state and national player in netball, a four-time SA squash champion and ranked No.2 in Australia in 1959. She was a strong leader for women in sport.” She will be tremendously missed.
