Our thoughts are with renowned music photographer Baron Wolman today, who writes, “Just as the sun sets over the Pacific, so, too, is it about to set over my life. A few of you know that a year ago I was give the formal diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a disease for which there is no cure. Sad to say I’m now in the final sprint to the end. I go forward with a huge amount of gratitude for the many blessings bestowed upon me (family, friends, travels and more), with no regrets and appreciation for how my photographs – my life’s work – have been received. Leave comments if you wish, but please don’t ask any questions or expect any further words from me – I am very, very weak.
Because of Covid, like thousands of others, I will pass quietly and with very few people around me. It’s been a great life, with Love being my salvation always…“
In April 1967, Wolman met a young freelance writer Jann Wenner, launching a legendary collaboration on Rolling Stone magazine. Sun Ra and Miles Davis were among his most noted jazz subjects.

It is beyond great sadness when I found out tonight on Instagram that Baron was diagnosed last year with ALS and is now slipping away. He has Covid and says he’s very weak. Baron Wolman Embraces Instagram In A New Book –

Just got a message from one of my biggest influences. Baron Wolman, 1st photographer at Rolling Stone mag in 1960’s. A brilliant photographer & lovely man. He has ALS & said he’s now at the end of his fight. It’s so sad #ALS #baronwolman #rollingstone #photographer #motorneurone

Such sadness in a world swirling in strange sadness. Baron Wolman took so many iconic photos of rock and cultural icons and was first Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone mag. Wishing him an easy path to the finish in a world that makes that difficult right now. #fotobaron

God bless you, and hold you Baron @BaronWolman ! Thank you for your gift to us all! Thank you for letting us see the world through your eyes! One love brother! ❤️ DJ Bones 👍😎 Florida!

Very heavy post from pioneering rock photographer @BaronWolman, who took many iconic photos of Hendrix, Harrison, Garcia, Cash, Joplin, Miles… everyone. Best wishes to him for an easy passage out of this world.

It was with a heavy heart that I read Baron’s post.
I have sent him an email setting out how much of an honour it was to work with him and feature 10 of his stunning images from the set of Performance in our large format book.
