August D. Schwartz Death – I-78, Berks County, PA accidents victims identified

Have been identified as the five people that lost their lives in two separate accidents that happened on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. The deadly crash happened on Interstate 78 eastbound in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

According to reports, the first crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Tilden Township when a driver of a school bus with no students on board slowed down for traffic in the right lane which was stopped due to ongoing construction in the left lane. The school bus which did not stop on time crashed into a Chevrolet Cruze. The crash caused the Chevrolet to enter underneath the school bus. The school bus continued traveling before crashing into a Nissan Xterra. The impact of the collision caused the Nissan to collide with a tractor-trailer driven by 32-year-old Jaspreet Chahal, of Pennsylvania.

August D. Schwartz who was the Chevrolet driver and Thalia Jackson who was the front-seat passenger in the Nissan Xterra were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. While Chahal did not sustain any injury.

As a result of the first collision, traffic was diverted from the highway at Exit 19 near Strausstown which resulted in the second crash.

According to officials, the second accident happened at approximately 10:20 p.m. in Upper Tulpehocken Township, Pennsylvania when eastbound traffic Interstate 78 was diverted from the highway at Exit 19 near Strausstown due to the first accident. Then, a tractor-trailer that did not stop for traffic struck a stopped van from behind which. The impact of the collision caused the van to crash into another stopped vehicle and the vehicle struck an SUV. The impact also caused the SUV to crash into another tractor-trailer.

Yalibet Lopez-Perez who was a rear-seat passenger in the sedan sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while Joshua D. Del Toro who was a front-seat passenger in a sedan sustained serious injuries and was taken to Reading Hospital for medical treatment. Del Toro was pronounced dead at the hospital on Wednesday night.

Also, Jonny Young who was the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The first tractor-trailer was operated by a 64-year-old New Florence, West Moreland County man, while the second tractor-trailer was driven by a 46-year-old Orlando, Florida man.
