Words can’t express my sorrow at waking up to the news of the death of @AllanBrigham . The most amazing and knowledgeable local historian, a tenacious fighter for his local community, and a truly lovely man. These pics from last year’s tour of Romsey for Mill Road Summer.

So sad to learn this morning of the passing of Allan Brigham – road sweeper, local historian, scholar, tour guide and champion for a better Cambridge. He will be missed. Rest easy Allan.

So sad to hear that Allan Brigham has died. He was one of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known. Road sweeper, tour guide, local historian, community activist, Honorary Fellow of Cambridge University. He championed working people. Always so cheerful. He knew everyone

We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Allan Brigham – noted local historian, and for many years part of the Cambridge City Council team who kept our streets and open spaces clean. RIP Allan.

My thoughts are with his friends and family for their loss. Allan was a great man, who cared for the city of Cambridge and wanted the best for it. He was a generous man too despite being so ill. He even called me whilst at hospital once. I will truly miss him. RIP

Very sad to hear the news @AllanBrigham. An inspiration to me personally and the Open Cambridge Team over many years. A champion for the local community. Tried so hard to bridge town & gown. Thank you for caring so much Allan. Rest in peace.

Very sad to hear of the death of @AllanBrigham a legend of Mill Road, the Vinery Road allotments, tour guide, local historian and genuinely lovely man, also a Senior Member @WolfsonCam

Cambridge has lost one of its greatest advocates. A man who educated, entertained and did so much to make the city a better place for its residents. And I’ve lost a dear friend. Goodbye and rest in peace @AllanBrigham

We are sad to report that Allan Brigham, one of the founders of Mill Road History Society amongst many other achievements, passed away on Monday.

He inspired many to take an interest in their local history and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

I am so very sorry to hear the news about Allan Brigham. Allan was extraordinary, always enthusiastic, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Cambridge, a man of unswerving principle and a fine trade unionist to boot. Allan was one of the first people I spoke to about becoming the MP for Cambridge and he helped inspire me to stand. Cambridge is the poorer for his passing. My thoughts are with Janice at this hugely difficult time.

Such sad news to hear of the death of Cambridge local Allan Brigham.
I often spoke to him whilst photographing on the streets of central Cambridge, and he was sweeping them.
A graduate of Sheffield University, took a temporary job in his early twenties as a road sweeper in Cambridge, partly because of an inspiring co-worker, and partly because he was allowed periods of unpaid leave to undertake adventurous travels.
He developed a keen interest in local history, and qualified as a tour guide.
In recognition of his commitment to the city, the University of Cambridge awarded him an honorary MA degree.
He was a true ambassador for the City, the environment and had deep knowledge of the area. I’ll miss his infectious smile, modesty and great humour. RIP Allan

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
