This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

Former middleweight world champion Alan Minter died on Wednesday from cancer. He was 69. England’s Minter (39-9, 23 KOs), who won an Olympic bronze medal in Munich in 1972 and the British, European and world titles during his 1972 to 1981 pro career, reached his peak in March 1980, when he traveled to Las Vegas and won a 15-round split decision over Vito Antuofermo to claim the unified middleweight world title. He knocked out Antuofermo in the eighth round of an immediate rematch in London in June 1980. But Minter, a southpaw, lost the belts in his second defense when Marvin Hagler traveled to London and stopped him on cuts in the third round, causing irate British fans to pelt the ring with debris and bottles in an ugly scene.

So sad to hear that Alan Minter has passed away …part of my growing up / boxing education was watching him and others fighting … his fight against Hagler was one of the very memorable fights from that era …. heart of a lion … sadly missed #ripalanminter
