Aged North Port woman dies in North Port multi-car accident

103-year-old North Port woman killed in a three-car accident in North Port, Florida  

A 103-year-old North Port woman has lost her life in a three-car accident that happened on Thanksgiving Day. The accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Ortiz Boulevard in North Port, Florida at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, November 25, 202.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was a passenger in a car driven by a 68-year-old North Port woman. The accident took place when the 68-year-old woman driving eastbound on U.S. 41 made a left onto Ortiz Boulevard and crashed into another car driven by a 27-year-old North Port man heading westbound on highway U.S. 41. The impact of the collision caused the second that was crashed to spin and struck a third car that was operated by a 66-year-old North Port man that was stopped at a red light on Ortiz Boulevard and heading southbound.

Following the collision, the driver of the first car was critically injured while her 103-year-old passenger was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead after succumbing to her injuries. The 27-year-old driver of the second car was not hurt. Both the driver of the third vehicle and his 65-year-old female passenger from North Port sustained minor injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
