3 killed in Ferguson overturned car accident identified

Three killed in a multi-car accident in Ferguson, Missouri  

21-year-old Aliyah R. Tatum, of Florissant, 24-year-old Dion Martin and 24-year-old Kenrick G. Smalling both of St. Louis have been identified as the three people that lost their lives in an overturned car accident that happened on Sunday evening. The deadly crash happened around 6:05 p.m. on November 28, 2021, on Interstate 270 in Ferguson, St. Louis County, Missouri.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred on eastbound I-270, west of West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson. The incident involving three happened when Smalling driving a 2008 Lexus IS 250, with Tatum and Martin as his passengers at a high rate of speed eastbound on the highway, lost control of the car and struck two other vehicles; a 2013 Kia Sorento and a 2017 GMC Acadia.

The impact of the collision caused the Lexus to drift off the roadway and overturn before crashing into a chain-link fence killing Smalling on the spot. Tatum was rushed to SSM Health DePaul Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, while Martin was pronounced dead at Christian Hospital Northeast. The Three of them were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

On the other hand, two Florissant girls in the Sorento, ages 7 and 13 survived the crash with minor injuries. 42-year-old Vivian D. Mansaray who was the driver of the Sorento sustained moderate injuries, while 24-year-old and Ivy J. Earl who was also a passenger in car incurred minor injuries. Meanwhile, none of the Acadia occupants was hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
