2 drivers killed in east of Salem, SD two-car accident

Two killed in two-car accident in McCook County, South Dakota

Two people, a 22-year-old woman, and a 60-year-old man have lost their lives in a two-car accident that happened on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021, east of Salem. According to officials, the incident happened at approximately 7:13 a.m. on S.D. Highway 38, near mile marker 333, one mile east of Salem in McCook County, South Dakota.

Preliminary investigation showed that the woman was heading eastbound in a 2007 Mercury Milan when a 1999 Toyota Camry operated by the elderly man westbound on South Dakota Highway 38 crossed the centreline into the eastbound and collided with the Mercury. Both motorists who were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash suffered fatal injuries and were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is requested to contact Public Information Officer, Tony Mangan at 605-280-5648 Their names will be released after informing their next of kin. Investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing by the South Dakota’s Highway Patrol.
